First!

Quick Note: this one is super long to catch up to past blogs, but future ones will NOT be so long...

I started Weight Watchers Saturday and decided to blog about my quest to become healthy. You see, my mom, Judy, has now suffered 3 strokes (debilitating her short term memory and balance) and has had quadruple bypass surgery and a heart attack, causing her to have to live in an Assisted Living Facility nearby. I take care of her in the ways the facility can't or won't. Such as familial love, getting her toilet paper, taking her places, taking care of her cat, etc.

Cancer, heart disease, and diabetes run rampant in my family and I'm going to do my darndest to prevent such a fate for myself.

Saturday was quite a success for me. For the first time in I don't know how long, I was able to stop myself from eating out of boredom or simply the love of food. I didn't even realize that was an issue for me until I started asking myself "Why do I want to eat this?" And often, the answer was "I love those things! They're so good!" or "I have nothing better to do." At the end of the day, I ended up only 2.5 over my daily limit and having earned 6 points from laundry and leisurely walking (for 100 minutes :P).

Church potluck was on Sunday...
I actually did really well. Brought rotisserie chicken myself, had a salad, a piece of fruit, and allowed myself 3 mini meatballs and it turned out to be 4.5 points! AMAZING!

I made it through the day hitting my point allowance exactly. I was so proud of myself!
On the way home from work last night, there was MASSIVE traffic, so we pulled over to get some food to wait out the traffic. Nick asked me where I wanted to go and I said "Anywhere is fine." Thinking I could find something anywhere.

Now, let me preface this by saying I am NOT a salad person...in fact, I'm not really a raw vegetable type of person. I LOVE cooked veggies, but raw veggies just don't seem to cut it for me.

He chose Romio's. It's an italian food place local to Washington State (I think), but I figured I'd still be able to figure something out between the menu and using my husband's phone for checking points. Ugh...

Lesson #1 Learned: Romio's is not a very WW friendly place.

EVERYTHING was LOADED with CALORIES! And they had a "Low Carb" section that was LOADED with FAT! The only "healthy" option was salad...and like I said...not much of a salad person. So I decided I would do a cup of minestrone and a cup of fettucini alfredo with bay shrimp. That put me over my daily limit by 2.5 points, but I thought it would be ok.

Lesson #2 Learned: 1 cup of fettucini alfredo with bay shrimp plus a cup of minestrone does NOT equal satisfying.

There I was, finished with my allotted amount of points and I wasn't full...and it didn't even taste good. I was sad and dejected as I watched my husband polish off his cheese bread, cheese pizza, MY garlic bread, and the rest of my fettucini alfredo with bay shrimp...I seriously almost cried.

I went home and ate a stalk of celery and a very very small piece of chicken (1 point) and worked out to try to earn back some of my used Splurge Points.

But lessons learned for next time. I won't be going back to Romio's anytime soon and clearly 1 cup of fettucini alfredo isn't going to do the trick.
I already know this plan is working because I was between 235-239 for the last few weeks and already broke that yesterday. (yes, I know my weight will fluctuate daily :))
Starting Weight: 235
Current Weight: 234
Short Term Goal: 223.3

NOTE:  I also restarted after having Bear.  I started at 242, am currently at 188.2, and my ultimate goal is 150.
